Affiliate marketing is a popular type of internet marketing that essentially means someone sells your products and receives a commission for doing so. Similar types of marketing existed long before the advent of the internet, but it has really boomed since the internet took off as big as it has. Basically, through internet marketing, a company is able to reach a much wider audience, thereby having more customers and, most important of all more sales.
It is a fantastic way for companies to get a large number of people (affiliates) to advertise, promote and sell their products and services in return for a small commission.
So how you get this done? How do you get people to market for you without it costing you the earth?
The most in demand people to have as affiliate marketeers are bloggers. Bloggers are great because their content is original and interesting and targets a specific niche. Furthermore, bloggers do everything they can to increase the page ranking of their site, which means they will work very hard to create valuable links for you as well. All you have to do, therefore, is find the right bloggers.
Finding blogs with a relevant target demographic is simple. First, determine the target audience you want to go after. Be specific. Conducting a search for blogs that target, say, “women” will yield an unwieldy number. But search for blogs that target, for example, “moms who sew” will yield an actionable list of recruits. To do the search, you can simply use Google. There are also paid tools such as Linkdex and AffiliateRecruitment.com. The benefit of paid tools is that they will provide some sort of reach and engagement metric that quickly enables you to prioritize your recruiting activities.
Before you offer them an affiliate position, however, check them out a bit first. Look into how often they actually post, when their last post was, how relevant their blog is to your specific audience and how they engage with their audience. Essentially, you are outsourcing your marketing department for a nominal fee, but just because the fee is nominal doesn’t mean you should just give the job for anybody. After all, your reputation is on the line as well.
Affiliate Marketing and B2B Opportunities
For those involved in B2B opportunities, affiliate marketing is also very important. In fact, you can significantly increase your revenues if you get this right. It is a shame that these opportunities are being overlooked quite regularly.
B2B opportunities have often been overlooked by many companies who may have seen the technique as much more difficult and time consuming process in comparison to B2C methods. But the business-to-business model can actually have long term rewards for affiliates with some companies willing to pay nearly $40 or $50 per successful lead generated on a campaign.
Consider, for a minute, not paying $40 to $50 per successful lead, but simple a percentage of what is actually being sold! It is likely that you will actually spend a whole lot less, but at the same time earn a lot more. This, in turn, means that you see a bigger return on investment and that you can use your new profits to spend on different methods of advertisement.
Affiliate marketing is huge and it is big business. You cannot underestimate how much power other people have in areas where you can’t even begin to reach without investing thousands. All it requires is a little bit of research on your part and a good sales pitch for your affiliate campaign. This can expand your reach incredibly rapidly.
