I still remember the first email subscriber I got from my YouTube channel that wasn't from either me or one of my family members or one of my loyal tribe of email testers. Her name was Lindsay so if you're watching Lindsay, I just want to say hello and to let you know that I appreciate you. So welcome back viewers. I know that I bang on a lot about YouTube and how to use it for business, how to create an impact, how to expand your reach and your revenue and all that kind of stuff normally but this you absolutely need to know.
If you're going to utilize YouTube to expand your reach create an impact and increase your income and you should then you're going to need to get familiar with ways to make the most out of each video, view YouTube is a unique part of your marketing strategy and get real intentional about creating digital access to get the best out of your efforts. Since we're coming at this from the angle of utilizing YouTube as a business owner or superstar entrepreneur essentially what you're going to need to learn how to do to maximize your views and engagement and turn your videos into mini marketing machines. It absolutely blows my mind that this isn't spoken about more often if I'm honest with you but that's okay. That's what I'm here for so stay tuned.
You're in the right place for all things video confidence and YouTube marketing for superstar entrepreneurs and business owners out there in the world doing great things so subscribe and hit the bell to be notified each and every Friday when I release a new video. So in this video I'm going to show you three pretty awesome ways to grow your email list with your YouTube channel and your YouTube content. But I think it would be important to start by talking about why this is even something you'd want to do and let's start by hammering the point home that you don't own YouTube. You don't own YouTube and you don't own any other platforms that you're using to expand your reach creating impact and increase your revenue. Point blank, period. It is pretty much that simple. You're going to have put blood sweat and tears into the research, development, scripting, filming, uploading and marketing of your video so you can make it as near perfect as possible for your ever-growing audience.
So after all that do you honestly want to risk leaving your viewers and subscribers hanging at YouTube and wondering how else they can connect with you? My guess would be that your answer to that question is likely a resounding “No!” so let's get into it. Okay so let's pre frame this and approach it as if you're starting from scratch like I was. So the first question is what do you actually need to build an email list? My personal recommendation if you're starting out as a complete beginner like I was is to go and explore MailChimp which is completely free for up to two thousand email subscribers.
I Personally I did everything in MailChimp from the landing page to the actual email list when I was starting. If you're a bit further along and advanced than that then you may want to go and explore tools such as ActiveCampaign and also Leadpages where you can create landing pages and thank-you pages. And for your offer or carrot to dangle to entice your viewers to continue the conversation with you I personally absolutely love Canva. There are of course other ways to do it such as Powerpoint or Keynote if that's more your thing and when it comes to the actual email list I personally don't recommend paying for one until you actually have to. In fact I myself until I had 100 subscribers to my channel didn't set up a mailing list and I think it might have been my fifth or six video into my journey before I created an offer because I was putting feelers out first to figure out what I could offer to my viewers that would be relevant to the content that they were picking up it would also answer the questions that they may have had.
So without further ado here are the top three ways you can grow your email list straight from your YouTube videos. So number one is transcription. This is a super-easy way to create amazing offers that are relevant to the video content that you created and also to the audience that you are attracting. Take the transcription of the video and create headlines, bullet points and mentions of everything within it. It's pretty much as simple as getting your video transcribed or transcribing it yourself and collating that information and creating it into a pretty format. I don't know about you dear superstar entrepreneurs and business owners but I find that I can watch and hear someone say something but for me personally it helps to be able to walk away with an extra resource for when I'm implementing that information myself. And that's really the idea here. You want to give them something tangible that they can walk away with and use to implement your content advice. So it's pretty simple in that you're taking the content of your video, the transcription and using that to make something that looks amazing and that's easily downloadable.
And the second way is through checklists. This is how I personally started. I still do use checklists from time to time. All you're really doing is taking the steps that you've put within your video content and creating a checklist that people can actually go away and work with. A great example of this might be doing the cooking or food niche you may have created a video that is centered around a particular dish and you showed the audience within that video the steps to create that dish. Then your actual offer might be something along the lines of a recipe checklist so people can actually take it away and create that recipe step by step.
And relevant to my channel my first opt-in or checklist was actually for superstar entrepreneurs and business owners who were thinking of starting YouTube channels hadn't yet. So what I actually did was create a checklist with I think it was eight steps in it to show those entrepreneurs and business owners how to set up their YouTube channels step-by-step so that it is poised and ready for success. That checklist generated my first email subscribers hello again Lindsay and still continues to to this day and I actually created the checklist inside of Canva. I'll put the link for Canva in the description below and I actually repurposed this version from when I started out on YouTube.
I'd already created a checklist that was similar in what it was trying to convey but much like my first YouTube video that was very rookie so it's a perfect example as well not only of creating and offer there's gonna be amazing for your viewers to be able to take home tangibly and be able to work with it it's also a classic example where repurposing using tools like canva can absolutely save you time effort and a lot of energy but still deliver value to your audience.
And I say that so that you know that it really is that simple and that also you can always go back and repurpose things and this took me a couple of hours with something like I think it was eight steps within that checklist that helped them set up their YouTube channel. So just to get the inspiration fonts going. Number three: valuable content every week. Personally I haven't tried this one but it's something that I'm hearing that a lot of superstar entrepreneurs and business bosses are having success with particularly in situations where they may have their website for example but they don't have anything specific ready to offer their viewers, subscribers, future clients, and customers.
So a simple call to action along the lines of “If you'd like to receive our weekly personalized email head over to the website and sign up to the email list is a really powerful way to do that and this is a great QuickStart method for when you don't necessarily have anything specific to offer yet but you just want to get that conversation going with your viewers and subscribers and get that digital asset rolling. So how do I get them onto the mailing list? I deliver value within the video that it's usually made up of a particular format that incluudes the hook, an outcome and a testimonial, as well as the steps, tips, tricks, and tools needed to achieve the desired outcome. And then I'll end my video by saying something along the lines of “Now you know exactly how to build your email list using your youtube video so that you can continue the conversation with your viewers and subscribers off of YouTube and turn your videos into mini marketing machines but if like me when I was first starting out you needed the resources to make sure all those components come together I've created a free resource for you that shows you how to build your email list using YouTube with complete ease.
